I can't even process the news about Nick Reiner. We all knew he had struggles (he wrote Being Charlie about it!), but for it to end like this? It’s the darkest Hollywood tragedy since Phil Hartman. Rob Reiner gave us The Princess Bride and Stand By Me—stories about heart and friendship—and to die in such a violent, hateful way at the hands of his own son is Shakespearean. The industry needs to stop glamorizing 'troubled artist' kids and actually intervene before it gets to this point. It’s sickening.

It’s horrifying. I re-watched Stand By Me last night and just cried. The scene where River Phoenix fades away... it hits different now. Nick Reiner had every resource in the world, every rehab, every chance. At some point, we have to stop blaming 'addiction' and call it what it is: evil.
